Hydrodynamic Bearing Seminar

Hydrodynamic Bearing Seminar
Session: Two
Date: June 26, 2024 at 15:00 (UK Time)
Venue: Virtual
Osborne Engineering Group is pleased to announce its next series of quarterly technical seminars focused on the basics and failure identification of hydrodynamic bearings. This program is not math-intensive and is designed for all individuals who are interested in how hydrodynamic bearings work. Your presenter has over 40 years of experience in the bearing and rotating equipment industry.

This program is a good introduction for anyone that is involved or deals with hydrodynamic bearings in their organisation with each session lasting roughly just over one hour.
Session One addresses the mechanics of fluid film development and defines the key geometric parameters that influence bearing performance. There are also some handy “envelope” calculations that can be used when predicting bearing operation.
Session Two builds on the first session and deals with the identification of various bearing failure modes, presenting root causes and potential solutions. This session will follow later this year.
The focus of this program is to explain the mechanical design and concept of how hydrodynamic bearings work allowing all attendees to gain or improve their understanding of journal and thrust bearings. It will give attendees the basic knowledge of how to recognize the early signs of common failures, thus improving on-site maintenance and the possibly of avoiding or reducing the requirement for expensive unplanned outages and equipment downtime.
